There is a fine view over the former colliery, which retains a more complete set of buildings than any other former colliery site in the UK. The expected treatment of any objects set up in this area is reflected in the sturdy design of the bench.

Dist:1.0km northeast<br/>Chatterley Whitfield is unique as it features the best surviving collection of historic pithead buildings and structures in England. As a result of this, the site was designated a Scheduled Ancient Monument by English Heritage in 1993. In August 2005 the National regeneration agency English Partnerships announced £14m funding, through the National Coalfields Programme, to transform some 50 ha of spoil heaps on the former Chatterley Whitfield colliery site, into picturesque parkland. The real underground was lost when a nearby pit closed and they lost the pumping. A new "underground" was built more or less at ground level but was well done.

Problems with contamination have meant that recent attempts to reopen parts of the site to the public have not proved successful. The site has now been designated as a redevelopment area, with the intention of integrating the heritage aspects of the site with small businesses. Pictures within the site were taken during a special Open Day in 2004.
