Dist:0.2km<br/>The western end of the gardens seen from the bridge across the lake. The monument on the right is to the 15th Earl of Shrewsbury (hence the topiary 'S' in front of it). He tamed the landscape surrounding the Towers; the inscription under his statue reads: “He made the desert smile”.

Dist:0.2km<br/>The Choragic Monument was modeled after the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates, built in Athens in 334B.C, which is situated close to the Acropolis. It was commissioned by the 16th Earl, John, in the latter 1820s, as a monument and a tribute to his uncle, 15th Earl, Charles, whom he had succeeded in 1927.
