A pretty higgledy-piggledy pub with an attractive garden.

Dist:0.1km<br/>The sign shows the ponies, deer and pigs that roam freely within the forest. Only a king could have devised a playground as grand as the New Forest, around 150 square miles of woodland, heath and marsh where deer roamed at will except when a royal huntsman sprang to the chase. William the Conqueror created the New Forest in 1079, planting new woods in a scrub-covered wilderness with scattered farms and homesteads that was the old Saxon hunting ground of Ytene.

Dist:0.1km<br/>The lych gate of Emery Down's parish church is a memorial, dedicated to those who died in the 1914-18 war. The crossbeam has 'Lest We Forget 1914-18' carved into it, and at the top it says 'AD 1921', the date of the gate's construction. Other New Forest churches have war memorial lych gates: [[70485]] and [[68886]].
