The cottage in the background, Rose Cottage, is of a similar era and is also grade II listed. This is an example of what was designed as a "lamp box", i.e. for fitting to a post (e.g. see [[878084]]), although most examples seem to have ended up wall mounted such as here. This is an example of the second version of the lamp box, dating from the late 1890s - the first version had the words "letters" rather than "letters only". Even so it is atypical - note the bolted on slot cover.
