This stretch of the A2 was opened in the late 1980s to create an uninterrupted dual carriageway between the Blackwall Tunnel and the 3 lane section starting at Falconwood. Almost the entire length of the new road passes through a concrete chute like this. Picture taken on a Bank Holiday morning whilst most of London is still in bed -- normally there is a lot more traffic.

Dist:1.0km west<br/>The park was massively re-landscaped in 2003/04 to provide the 'River Quaggy Flood Alleviation Scheme'. The heavily channelled river would previously flood Lewisham and nearby areas after exceptionally heavy rain, but Sutcliffe Park now provides a restored 'flood plain' and a natural solution to the problem.

Dist:1.0km south<br/>A "foreigner" on B.R. metals. Don't know who it belonged to, though. Looks like the people in the building at the right of the photograph could do with a proof-reader, too. On the other track, in the image, and about right alongside where the locomotive is, was a severely "crippled" joint in the rails. I saw a train of 4-wheeled tank-cars pass over the section at fairly high speed and, frankly, it was scary to watch.

Dist:1.0km north<br/>The Pleasaunce is a small but beautiful area of trees, streams and paths very close to the centre of Eltham. The building is the Tudor Barn, which houses a restaurant.
