Dist:0.3km north<br/>Running alongside the river Calder which runs parallel to the Savile Road, a town formed by its connections to the Savile family.The Saviles were a powerful and wealthy family with homes at Rufford Abbey in Nottinghamshire and in London, although Thornhill Hall, near Dewsbury, was their chief residence.

Dist:0.6km north<br/>The old canal wharf buildings now house a pub, coffee shop and chandlery. 'Leggers' were men employed to work canal boats through tunnels where there was no towpath. They would lie on their back or side and propel the boat by 'walking' (legging) along the canal walls or roof. There were in fact no tunnels in this immediate area.

Dist:0.6km north<br/>The main line of the Hebble and Calder navigation cuts off the large loop of the River Calder which passes through the centre of Dewsbury. A branch o just under 1 mile in length was built to allow canal traffic better access to the mills in Dewsbury itself.

Dist:0.6km north<br/>This former textile factory is now occupied by a major manufacturer of greetings cards. The lack of windows is typical of weaving sheds. These are lit by roof lights which give excellent lighting for this type of work; the other benefits are security and the lack of distraction for the workforce.

Dist:0.7km west<br/>This section of the cycle route was constructed on a new line across derelict industrial land, between a redeveloped industrial estate (Tenterfields) and the flood channel. It is one of a series of cycle routes being provided by Kirklees Metropolitan Council in consulation with Kirklees Cycling Forum. The bridge in the distance carries Thornhill Road across the channel.
