Woolfords Water

 (16 miles away)

Hi

My maiden name was Woolford and my family were very prevalent in the West Parley, West Moors area in the early 1800s. Also Wimborne St Giles, Cranborne etc. Can anyone shed any light on the history of Woolfords Water - how it was named for instance. I do know that my great-great-grandfather George Woolford farmed somewhere in the area and part of the family married into the Hatchard family who also farmed. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you

Henry Thompson

 (25 miles away)

My great grandfather Henry H Thompson who died in 1954 at Crewkerne, was known as the Childrens Friend. Henry ran a marine store in Middle Path until his retirement around 1925. He was also a Sgt Drill instructor with the local volunteers during WW1 and at some stage served in the regular army. I am guessing around 1880 - 1900 timescale. I have him on census aged 5 in his home town of Bradford and again in 1901 in London where he is listed with my grand mother Lily V Hughes (nee Thompson). Nan died in 1982.

I also believe but unconformed that at some stage (probably between 1901 and 1920)that Harry was Landlord at the 'Volunteer' public house in Yeovil and the 'Cross Keys' in Dorchester.

Any help, snippets of information etc would be gratefully received.
James
