The cracked paving stones might have given the council workers a clue that lorries regularly mount the pavement here when turning into Woodside Avenue. Beyond is the bridge over the Northern Line tracks to Highgate Depot.

Dist:0.4km north<br/>This is the entrance to Highgate Golf Club. The Club was founded in 1904, the course being laid out on farmland leased from the Church Commissioners. The freehold was finally purchased in 1959. During their history the clubhouse has twice been destroyed by fire. To paraphrase Lady Bracknell to lose one clubhouse is unfortunate, to lose two seems like carelessness! The current course is 18 holes 5985 yards par 69.

Dist:0.4km north<br/>Houses on Bakers Lane at the junction with Kenwood Road. Bakers Lane is a three lane section of the A1 at its junction with the A1000 and North Hill. The elderly lady is about to start the climb up North Hill - on a hot afternoon it won't be a pleasant walk.

Dist:0.4km north<br/>Housing trains for the Northern Line. To enter Service, trains leave the depot and travel north to East Finchley where they can be either routed north towards High Barnet and Mill Hill East or South, back through Highgate station, to the rest of the Northern Line.

Dist:0.5km north<br/>A 134 bus, on diversion because of a burst watermain on Muswell Hill climbs the short steep rise up to the bridge over the Northern Line tracks to Highgate Depot. It is framed by two magnificent Plane trees. In the distance, the spire of St. James, Muswell Hill, stands proud on the horizon.
