Straiton Pond is a Local Nature Reserve on reclaimed industrial land next to the busy A720 Edinburgh City By-Pass. Here is one access point opposite McDonald's on the edge of the retail park.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Tin shed strip mall, just like the one outside the nearest big town to you. The sheds are getting rather tatty, and the trolley stands rusty. -- 2012 It is looking a little tidier now. MFI went bust and a new retailer is in that shed.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Even somewhere as grim as a drive in tinshed shopping centre can be enlivened by a few weeds. Opportunistic plants putting on a summer display on disturbed land next to the carpark. This was once the site of a colliery, but is now handily placed beside the Edinburgh bypass. There is also a familiar big blue/yellow box here, but it is shared with the square next door.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Not much in the way of custom today, the car park pretty well empty and I was only there due to the necessity of getting a bulb for the car. A corbie awaits his cut.
