Dist:0.5km north<br/>This is now Chartwell Court flats. It was built in 1933 as the Post Office Research Station, which included telecommunications research. The history section of the BT website http://www.btplc.com tells us that: "What is generally regarded as the world's first programmable electronic computer (Colossus) was designed and constructed by a Post Office Research Branch team headed by T H Flowers (1905-1998). It was constructed at Dollis Hill, and transported to Bletchley Park near Milton Keynes, where it was demonstrated on 8 December. Bletchley Park was the centre of British wartime code breaking operations."

Dist:0.7km south<br/>The London Encyclopaedia tells us that Dollis Hill House was rebuilt in 1823. In 1901, 96 acres of land around the house were bought as a public park. This ornamental pond is at the top of the park, near the house.

Dist:0.7km north<br/>Staples Corner is named after the Staples Mattress Factory which occupied a building at this junction from 1926 until 1986. The present day Staples office retailer took advantage of a ready made location with great publicity when the area was redeveloped after the IRA bombing of April 1992. This is the eponymous roundabout at the ground level junction of the A406 North Circular Road with the A5 Edgware Road. The main A5 runs on the lower flyover, with the A406 on the higher one to the right.
