Dist:0.2km north<br/>The fields in the foreground were not tipped on, partly due to a large sewer that runs under them. Beyond there is an artificial hill of rubbish covered with soil. It is now starting to look attractive. This view is from the Spen Valley Greenway, part of Sustrans Route 66.

Dist:0.3km north<br/>This Sustrans cycleway, which extends from the canal near Dewsbury to Oakenshaw, with a projected extension through the Transperience site to Bradford, has been a great success. The main reason is that, although it appears semi-rural with plenty of trees around, it passes a great many houses such as the ones on the left. It is also close to the centres of Heckmondwike, Liversedge and Cleckheaton. Like many cycleways, it is on the bed of a disused railway.

Dist:0.5km north<br/>This is a pleasant link from Mirfield to the Spen Valley Greenway (Sustrans Route 66). Unfortunately it can't be shown on Kirklees Council's excellent map of cycling routes because it isn't on their street register, neither is it on the Rights of Way map ..... so why does it have a road sign? (Barriers were erected 200m further on, at a particularly squelchy place, to stop motorists from using the lane).

Dist:0.6km north<br/>This bridleway leads to Mirfield via Jill Lane (see SE2221). The photo is taken from where the lane crosses the Spen Valley Greenway. The tarmac leads to Spring Cottage, seen in the background with the new buildings that have appeared in the last several years in connection with horses. Beyond Spring Cottage there is mud!

Dist:0.8km northwest<br/>This is a continuation of Carr Lane, Dewsbury and was an access track to Liversedge Park Farm, which now has a tarmac lane (Lodge Lane) from Norristhorpe, the whole route being a public footpath. The sewage works serves the former Spenborough council area.

Dist:0.8km east<br/>The temple is a stone built structure in the grounds of Crow Nest Park. Crow Nest Park was the former home of Sir Mark Oldroyd, a local mill owner and entrepreneur who sold the house and grounds to Dewsbury Corporation for £22,000 in the 1880's.
