Dewsbury Minster dates back to Anglo-Saxon times when Dewsbury is said to have been visited by the 7th Century missionary St Paulinus.The present building dates to the 13th Century.

Formerly the towing path for the River Calder, now the Calder Valley Greenway. The grassy slope up to the left leads to a private road alongside various industrial buildings, parallel to the towing path.

This is near to the junction of Mill Street West with the A638 Aldams Road. The Calder Valley Greenway is one of a series of cycle routes being provided by Kirklees Metropolitan Council in consulation with Kirklees Cycling Forum.

Originally a Wesleyan Chapel, it is now shared by the Central Methodist Church and the Elim Pentecostal Church.

This was the main road into town from the west, and is lined by shops, mostly empty or occupied by estate agents and solicitors.

The tall building at the end caught my eye. The office building on the left appears to have a car park on the ground floor. It is on the site of the County Police Station as shown on the 1907 OS map.

I don't know whether this is still used for worship, but it has been used for meetings, eg in Sep 2002 the Kirklees Drugs Action Team held a workshop here to give free advice on how to deal with a drug overdose.

Two good quality houses in what must have been a desirable position near to the town centre and railway station.

Bond Street was constructed in the 1850s as a direct link from the town centre to the station. It is surprisingly narrow for that purpose, especially as the south (left) side remained mostly undeveloped until the telephone exchange was built in the 20C. On the right there is a series of 19C warehouses and office buildings.

The Telephone Exchange was built in the mid-20C in a combination of modern and neo-classical styles.
