In 1987 a corner of Capability Browns Great Park at Bowood House, the family home of the Marquis of Lansdowne, was turned into a golf course. This is the entrance to the Golf and Country Club.

Dist:0.2km<br/>This fine looking pub has an excellent view over the Avon valley in a westerly direction. The food is very good with a varied menu and, being a Wadworths pub, so too is the beer. It gets very busy at weekends, but try it in the week out of the holiday season and it is a great place to relax and take in the atmosphere. One of my favourites! The original pub which stood here was named the Shelbourne Arms, dating from at least 1810. By 1838 it was known as the Lansdowne Arms. Both names refer to the owner of Bowood House, bought in 1754 by John Petty, Lord Shelburne, who was later created Marquess of Lansdowne in 1784. The present building was built in 1843 to replace the old one.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Viewed from the Lansdowne Arms. Built in 1840 by Sir Charles Barry for the Earl of Shelburne as the main entrance to the 2,000 acre Bowood House estate (Capability Brown). Now the entrance to Bowood Golf and Country Club. Visitors to Bowood use a different entrance.

Dist:0.3km<br/>The K6 type telephone box stands beside Sunshine Cottage. In 1935, the Post Office commissioned a new kiosk from Sir Giles Gilbert Scott to celebrate the Jubilee of King George V. The K6 Jubilee Kiosk, as it is known, was similar to the K2 box, being made of cast iron and painted red but was 25% lighter in weight. By the end of the 1930s there were 20,000 K6 telephone boxes in use all over the UK.
