Dist:0.4km<br/>The very northern edge of built-up London here, where the houses end and the countryside begins. This view was taken looking north westwards from the end of Warrens Shawe Lane. There is a large stream flowing in the bottom of the valley which the Ordnance Survey, for some reason, ignores on both the 1:50,000 and 1:25,000 scale maps.

Dist:0.6km<br/>Pararge aegeria. Whilst the caterpillars feed on grass, the adult butterflies feed on the honeydew secreted by aphids. The males choose a territory where sunlight penetrates the woodland canopy and defend it from other males whilst dancing to impress passing females. This one has decided to have a rest on the path.

Dist:0.6km<br/>Intended as a roundabout junction, the eastern arm of the roundabout and the intended link road to Stirling Corner as junction 3 was never built. This has tielded a very awkward traffic system at London Gateway (Scratchwood) services with two way traffic over both access bridges, as can be seen, and conflicting traffic flows.

Dist:0.6km<br/>The two bridges were constructed to form a conventional roundabout junction, with a link road from here to the A41/A411 junction at Stirling Corner. Junction 3 is conspicuously missing from the M1's sequence of junction numbering.

Dist:0.6km<br/>Technically this is a restricted byway according to the map symbols and it does see horse traffic judging by the hoof prints on one of the muddier sections.

Dist:0.7km<br/>A plethora of signs - one highways agency, the others not, advertise that this is a private road. The white sign below the 15mph sign reads 'Bury Farm private road - This is a dead end road - Only vehicles for farm shop - stables and residents drive slowly'. There's also a no parking sign hiding below the blue private property sign. The road is a restricted byway and the party going the other way seem to be having a good time - especially the young lady who looks to be breaking into a dance routine :-)

Dist:0.7km<br/>Horses stand in a paddock beside the road looking at me inquisitively. Beyond are the buildings of Bury Farm which specialises in equine foods.
