Dist:0.2km<br/>On the small green at the junction of Bramble Road (running across the photo) and Saint Michael's Road, stands this old finger post indicating Bramble Hall to the right, and Thundersley and Hadleigh to the left. The other "finger" which would have pointed down St Michael's Road and indicated Rayleigh must have been removed in the 1930's when the building of the A127 Southend Arterial Road blocked the route through.

Dist:0.2km<br/>The picture shows part of a circular nature trail in Pound Wood Nature Reserve, Daws Heath, Essex. The reserve, owned by Essex Wildlife Trust http://www.essexwt.org.uk/visitor_centres__nature_reserves/pound_wood_nature_reserve/ was purchased in 1993. Although there has been a wood here for hundreds of years the trees are relatively young as the timber has been regularly cropped. The church hall [[2137993]] lies just to the east, on the other side of the car park (to the right). The wood in the background is the western edge of Pound Wood [[1535798]].

Dist:0.2km<br/>Woodbanks are a distinctive feature of ancient woodlands such as Pound Wood. They typically demarcated abutting holdings of two owners or tenants. They each comprise a ditch with an adjacent bank on which understorey trees were deliberately planted.
