The 1847 cast-iron span of the London & North Western Railway crossing the Thornhill cut of the Calder & Hebble Navigation, which bypasses a long loop of the Calder, the river itself passing through Dewsbury.

This is one of the many bridges on the Sustrans cycle route network. The photo was taken from the Dewsbury section of the Calder Valley Greenway, which runs along the former towing path of the River Calder.

Here the former branch line from Thornhill Junction to Heckmondwike crosses the busy A644. The disused railway track is now the Spen Valley Greenway, a Sustrans cycle route. The link to the newly created Dewsbury section of the Calder Valley Greenway comes down between the grassy slope and the fence on the right, and across the new traffic lights provided for cyclists and pedestrians using the route.

This pub is a reminder of the days when there was a wharf on the river at the end of Ravenswharf Road opposite the pub (the pub name has an 'e' at the end, but not the road).

This is an exceptionally long weir, constructed across the River Calder upstream of an island that divides into two channels. The water was diverted into two mill races, one serving Upper Mills (fulling) and the Calder Water Mill (corn), the other Dewsbury Mills (woollen).

This channel is along the former Dewsbury Canal, which was made redundant when the canal through Thornhill Lees was constructed. The towing path is a public footpath, so a footbridge was constructed to carry it over the channel. This photo was taken from the Calder Valley Greenway, along the path behind Island View.

A pleasant row of terrace houses, with a gable in the centre to avoid monotony. It would have been next to Upper Mills.

This section of the cycle route was constructed on a new line across derelict industrial land, between a redeveloped industrial estate (Tenterfields) and the flood channel. It is one of a series of cycle routes being provided by Kirklees Metropolitan Council in consulation with Kirklees Cycling Forum. The bridge in the distance carries Thornhill Road across the channel.

This bridge, erected in 1847 and made by Joseph Butlers ironworks in Stanningley Leeds, takes the Huddersfield to Leeds railway line over the River Calder, just outside Dewsbury near Ravensthorpe.
