Just off Colorado Way, near Tomahawk Trail, round the back of Xscape, Glasshoughton, near Castleford. This is likely to be a business or leisure park, once it is developed, hopefully sometime in the not too distant future.

Looking across Cutsyke, on the southern edge of Castleford, from the former Glasshoughton Colliery spoil heap. Industrial premises on Flass Lane and Green Lane in foreground, white dome of former 'King Billy' centre, Leeds Road visible in centre, Whitwood College and Castleford Hospital buildings in middle distance beyond houses. Office blocks and flats of Leeds city centre can be seen towards right-hand horizon.

Building underway on the 'Skills Xchange' a new 14-19 vocational college to replace Whitwood College http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/404402 and another of the buildings which is transforming the former Glasshoughton colliery and coke works site. Allerton Bywater and Great Preston in the middle distance, east Leeds tower blocks on the horizon.

Locally known as the King Billy Crossroads, so named because the King William 1V Pub (the building on the left of the traffic lights ) dominated the corner.
The pub is now a fireplace shop.

Dist:1.0km east<br/>This statue stands on a roundabout on the site of a former colliery. This is round the back of the new development at Xscape (leisure), Freeport (outlet shopping centre) and near the site of the impending further expansion of this re-development for Castleford and Glasshoughton. In the background the steam puffs out of the cooling towers of Ferrybridge power station. Read the dedication on the plaque, here [[114818]].

"This memorial stands in commemoration of the Glasshoughton Colliery
and Coke Works around which this great community grew.
Thosands of people worked here amidst the unique camaraderie
of the mining industry. Many men died due to accident and illness.
May they rest in peace.

This plaque was unveiled by the former Mayor of Castleford and Wakefield District, Mrs. Winifred McLoughlin, on Tuesday 06 December 2005 and dedicated to the community of Glasshoughton by Waystone Ltd. and Yorkshire Forward."
