The canal is wide enough to accommodate both narrowboats and those a little broader in the beam called barges one of which can be seen in the background.

A barge on the canal southwest of the village, whose churchyard is marked by the group of conifers in the background, and just east of Carrel Crown Bridge. A walker is on public footpath WRIV26, running along the towpath. Above him can be seen a listed Canal accommodation bridge dating from 1810 http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-311852-canal-bridge-200-metres-west-of-road-bri . The narrowboat in view has a fine collection of potted plants and pushbikes on its roof. The former towpath on the left is a public footpath and is well-maintained presumably by British Waterways.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Carrel Crown Bridge from the east. There seems to be some doubt over the spelling of this bridge name, the early Nicholsons Guide available in the 1970's calls it Curret Crown Bridge, the current Nicholsons and OS Explorer 157 call it Carrel Crown Bridge.

Dist:0.2km<br/>The broad-beamed pleasure cruiser named 'Infinite Journey' also seen here [[2510175]] is passing under a bridge the name of which is shown on the OS maps as Carrel Crown Bridge. It serves no useful purpose nowadays. It is gated on its northern side with a 'private land' sign and, on the southern side it goes nowhere. It probably pre-dates the nearby railway line and any functional value the bridge once had disappeared when the line came into existence. Looks pretty though, at this time of year.

Dist:0.2km<br/>This is a Type 28A anti-tank pillbox constructed in 1940/41 as part of the anti-invasion defences of WWII. It was on the GHQ Stop Line running from near Melksham to Reading, the 'Blue Line'. It is situated on Noyes Farm with no public rights of way to it.

Dist:0.3km<br/>This is an empty aggregates train running back to the Hanson quarries in Somerset. The train must have been getting on for a kilometre in length. The front of the train is out of sight near the horizon.
