This unusual place name is likely to be of Saxon origin and is frequently referred to using the alternative spelling 'Crowdecote'. The gable-end and car park of the Packhorse public house are visible behind the whitewashed cottages.

The footpath runs between Pilsbury village (ahead) and Crowdecote (approximately 350metres behind the viewpoint). To the right is a short [[1714336]] to a bridge (and a ford) over the River Dove from where footpaths lead to Upper Whitle, Edgetop, or the road toward Longnor. There is some confusion as to the spelling of Crowdicote.
