Dist:0.2km<br/>This is the church of 'Parson Hawker', said to be the founder of Harvest Festival. Hawker was an eccentric man, but took his role as parish priest very seriously. He was often seen by parishioners, sometimes wearing a pink beret on his head! Some guessed that he wished to e a Catholic cardinal which was not so far off the mark as it sounds. Hawker converted to Catholicism shortly before his death in 1875.

Dist:0.2km<br/>View north-west out to sea. The eccentric Celtic poet Robert Stephen Hawker, who originated the modern Harvest Festival, was vicar of this partly Norman church during the mid-1800s. He built the adjacent vicarage with its quaint chimneys, which were modelled on small church towers. Dist:0.2km<br/>This was built by Robert Hawker, vicar from 1834 to 1875. The chimney-stacks are imitations of the towers of various churches and Oxford colleges that he had been connected with. He was a poet and wrote 'And shall Trelawney die' and the ballad 'The Song of the Western Men' that is almost the Cornish National Anthem.

Dist:0.2km<br/>From left to right, a small stone building, a lych gate and a stile. The building used to be used as a mortuary. The Lych gate has its origins in the 17th century and was rebuilt in the 18th. The stile is believed to date from the early 19th century, contemporaneous with the Reverend Hawker.
