Dist:0.4km north<br/>As with many of the public toilets in Sheffield, these were built by Sheffield Corporation Tramways primarily to serve the tram drivers at tram termini. Consequently, they were male toilets. The council later built female toilets, which are not visible in the picture. The Heavygate toilets are particularly interesting in that they are a two-storey structure. Visible is the top floor, the male toilets. The female toilets are in the lower floor, accessed from Fir Street down the steps at the side. In the picture is a student filmcrew who were making a documentary about public toilets in Sheffield.

The Commonside toilets are interesting in that they are built into the base of a hillside. They are essentially underground, and were constructed with bridge-building techniques. In the picture is a student filmcrew who were making a documentary about public toilets in Sheffield.

Dist:0.8km north<br/>The Four Balls have been used to stop vehicles driving past the main corner entrance to Hammerton Road Police Station ... cycles can still pass through the middle and, of course, pedestrians can use the pavement. The terraced houses in the background are shown on the 1903 Ordnance Survey Map ... but the Police Station wasn't built for another 30 years or so. [[103592]] [[1036005]] [[1036015]]
