Dist:0.2km<br/>A commemorative plaque at the Dixon Terrace-Longridge Road junction, marks the site of the first Brucefield Church which was known as the ‘Barracks’. After ‘Whitburn Free Church’ was opened in 1857 the ‘Barracks’ was turned into flats for divinity students before being demolished in 1930.

Dist:0.4km<br/>West Main Street, Whitburn. -- Update, June 2011 The Miner's Welfare building, a former cinema suffered a minor fire in 1985 and was totally destroyed by another more serious fire on 27th June 2011. Sadly, all that's left is the front facade. (many thanks to Andrew MacKinnon for the update)

The distant ridgeline, was previously broken by the leftover bings from the former Polkemmet Colliery, these have been removed and the Whitburn skyline is much more natural, although a small bing on the Harthill to Fauldhouse road can be seen at the extreme right centre of the picture.
