These are allowed to settle to the bottom as secondary sludge. The supernatant flows into the circular channels. By now it is ready for discharge into the river [[1481935]]. The sludge (together with the primary sludge) is taken to the [[1481947]]. The final sludge is then disposed of [[1481952]]. The liquid content can be returned to the beginning of the cycle. The name 'Activated Sludge' refers to the fact that the tanks are seeded with the sludge from the previous generation of activation.
