Dist:0.1km north<br/>The Clock Tower was built in 1902 to celebrate the coronation of King Edward VII, and also to enclose a sewage lift station. It's good to report that the clock was showing the correct time. On the right is the entrance to the Tower Retail Park from Crayford Road. On the pavement on this side of the road is a Transport for London (TfL) Low Emission Zone (LEZ) warning sign. The LEZ is enforced with surveillance cameras, and became effective for lorries, motor caravans, and horseboxes exceeding 12 tonnes in weight from 4 February 2008. Unless a vehicle in this category reaches the Euro III emissions standard, or can claim exemption, the charge is £200 per day with a penalty charge of £1,500 if the payment is not paid within 28 days. Vehicles first registered as new with the DVLA on or after 1 October 2001 are assumed to meet the Euro III standard, so they would meet the LEZ emissions standards. Dist:0.1km north<br/>The building was originally constructed in 1915 as the canteen and mess hall for the employees of Vickers. It was bought in 1929 by Crayford Urban District Council for use as the Town Hall. That body disappeared during the reorganization of local government in 1965 and the area is now under the jurisdiction of the London Borough of Bexley, although the Town Hall is still used for some local government administration. Its address is 112 Crayford Road which is in the foreground. The pale blue tablet above the main entrance of the Town Hall is of Crayford Urban District Council's coat of arms showing a horse from the arms of Kent County Council, two waves representing the River Thames and the River Cray, and a maroon falcon in memory of the first heavier than air flying machine, which was constructed by Sir Hiram Maxim and flown on rails in a field in Crayford in 1894. The Latin motto on the coat of arms is "Fortiter et Recte", which translated means "Boldly and Rightly", and is now the motto on the coat of arms of the London Borough of Bexley. The Town Hall has a large open space behind it that is the subject of a proposed major redevelopment costing £30 million. This would include new homes, new shops and new community facilities around a new town square. The Town Hall would be retained and refurbished as part of this scheme.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Crayford has been a venue for greyhound racing since 1937, although this stadium was constructed, in a different location to the original one, in 1986. The stadium is sponsored by Ladbrokes, and is one of only four remaining in the London area, the others being at Romford, Walthamstow and Wimbledon. Dist:0.2km north<br/>The pub dates from 1925 and replaced an older licensed premises but is built in a Tudor style with two timber-framed jettied first floor bays. The pub was briefly re-branded as The Orange Kipper in the 1990s.

Dist:0.3km north<br/>The Cray is very shallow here, as one would expect from the name of the town. The footpath is on the London Loop long distance footpath and on National Cycle Network Route 1 between Dover and London.

Dist:0.3km north<br/>This parade of shops and flats was built on the site of the former Princesses' Theatre, which was built by the Vickers Company and opened in July 1916 for their employees who were munitioneers during the First World War. Unfortunately the theatre was almost completely destroyed by fire in December 1916, but was eventually rebuilt in 1919 as a cinema that lasted until 1957. The near shop with the dark blue frontage is Create Inn, a family-run paint-your-own-pottery studio, which sounds like great fun. Their website is here http://create-inn.com/default.aspx
