The amazing thing about digital photographs is that they enable us to keep all kinds of records of change over time. I've been keeping a record of seasonal change - November 2005 was definitely a very mild Autumn.

After a month of fairly consistent rain in south Yorkshire this was the day when it rained and rained and ... By around 3pm the beck in Crane Moor was flowing over the road and around the fortunately empty bungalow at the side of the beck.

Dist:0.1km<br/>A contextual photograph showing Crane Moor Village, South Yorkshire, taken from the footpath that runs from Crane Moor Top past `Clappers'. Pastoral Farming is the chief economic activity of the area. A significant amount of woodland remains some of which provides a home for pheasant rearing linked to small game 'shooting'. The woodland along the back of the picture is called Top Pit Wood. The woodland probably got its name from one of the many small drift coal mines that were littered about the whole district. More footpaths connect places around the valley than in any other place I have lived. My guess is that these served the needs of the miners who walked several miles from a variety of local communities to get to their places of work. My own small stone terrace house was originally built for the miners who worked on the Wentworth (Stainborough) Estate. The path of a dismantled railway also crosses this valley.

Dist:0.1km<br/>The current down-turn in the housing market means that there are 7 or 8 houses now for sale in the village. Something that would have been unthinkable not long ago. This view down Hand Lane shows the former Rock pub (the building below and at right angles to the Mount Pleasant Terrace Houses) which has been converted into apartments.

Dist:0.1km<br/>The original houses on this site were built around courts and were known as China Square. This more recent building probably dates from the 1970's. The old allotments were located just below the China Square houses on the right. Originally the allotments would have been provided for the China Square families by the Wentworth Estate.
