Cowley locks looking south along the Grand Union Canal. This picture was taken at the start of an ambitious pub-crawl from Uxbridge to Southall along the canal towpath. Luckily, nobody fell in.

Cowley Lock, seen here is the distance, resumes the climb into the Chilterns after the almost 7 miles long pound above Norwood Top Lock. The surroundings here are pleasant: we are at last leaving urban London behind, and moving into what remains of the Middlesex countryside.

This is the Wilfred Brown Building and the pond on Cleveland Road. The Wilfred Brown Building hosts the University's main reception, its alumni office and its administration services.

This attractive little church is on the east side of Church Road and at the eastern extremity of Cowley. Apart from the fact that Roman remains were found here in 1959 I can find no other information about the church on the internet. From a cartographical point of view this is a fine illustration of the relative inaccuracies of the Ordnance Survey 1:50,000 scale mapping. This shows the symbol for a church with a steeple clearly in the adjacent grid square [[TQ0682]], but using the more accurate 1:10,000 scale mapping the church is clearly mainly in this grid square.
