A triple arch stone bridge is required to carry the 'A' class road over a minor tributary to the River Wear

Built around 1810, this elegant bridge takes the main A689 road over the deep valley of Heathery Cleugh just north of Killhope Burn. Keys to the Past http://www.keystothepast.info/durhamcc/K2P.nsf/K2PDetail?readform&PRN=D14479 describes its construction as irregular courses of squared sandstone with ashlar dressings and rubble coping. Five very tall segmental-headed arches on tapered piers have two rows of voussoirs [the wedge-shaped stones forming the curved parts of an arch]. Parapets have coping of round vertical stones.

This notice on the A689 gives advance notice of the Killhope Lead Mining Museum further up the road. But is it the attraction which is small, or does it particularly appeal to small visitors? And whatever happened to the apostrophe in North Easts?
