Originally this No 2 Line of the Dudley Canal continued another 5 miles through Lapal Tunnel to connect with the Worcester & Birmingham Canal, but the tunnel was closed by persistent mining subsidence.

This location, looking north at traffic on Mucklow Hill, marks the northern end of an ambitious restoration scheme for the abandoned canal which not only includes a link under this road, but crossing the Halesowen Bypass and recreating a 3795 yard (around 3.5km) tunnel under the M5 at Lapal.

Dist:0.6km west<br/>The Makro Cash & Carry store at Halesowen is huge. It was the third to be opened in the UK; dating from 1973. The car park, part of which is roofed over, can take 740 cars, far more than, for example, most park & ride car parks. This view shows the garden centre section on the left, and the main customer entrance on the right, along with a small section of the car park. Makro is an international group with its headquarters in Germany. It has over 30 stores in the UK, which are trade only, so you need to be connected with a business to get an admittance card.
