Dist:0.6km south<br/>These are the new school buildings. The school moved into them in September 2007. The OS map has not yet been updated to show these buildings. The old buildings, just to the east are now being demolished. See also [[[628876]]] The school is named after Ralph Thoresby (1658-1724), who is known as the first historian of Leeds. Dist:0.6km south<br/>This communication tower, at one of the highest spots in Leeds, can be seen from a great distance on land and from the air as one approaches Leeds-Bradford airport. The standard name for this tower seems to be "Tinshill Tower" but it is also known locally as "Cookridge Tower". The brick tower on the left is part of a fire station and there is also a water tower further to the left, off the frame.

Dist:0.7km north<br/>The central aisle of the centre is between the Leisure Centre on the left, and shops on the right. It was never beautiful, but it used to have more activity than it does now. I remember 20 years ago, there was a newsagents, a greengrocers, a travel agent and a large chemists shop. Now ASDA occupies most of the shops, and the 2 shops remaining down this end are the opticians and a smaller chemist. Redevelopment is planned, but I don't know how soon.
