<br/>Looking up the hill towards the tunnel under East End Road. An A6, Stansted Airport to Victoria, National Express service overtakes in rapidly worsening weather conditions. Not visible in this small image are the snowflakes that were falling from the dark cloud on the left of the photo. Within 5 minutes we had a blizzard. My son and I opted for a brisk walk home and a mug of hot tea!

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Autumn leaves collect amonst the cobbles under the footbridge over the North Circular Road. This pattern of raised cobbles is popular in paved areas where people do not normally walk as they discourage people from sleeping rough.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Looking towards Henlys Corner, a Tanker begins the drag up to Manor Cottage where there used to be a roundabout. Now there is an underpass, but the road continues to climb until it crosses the Northern Line. There are often traffic jams on the west bound carriageway due to the traffic lights at the junctions with the A1 and the A598 just round the corner. The houses in the background are on Beaufort Park.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Council housing on the Basing Way estate. Wembley Stadium is visible in the background. With such a nice expanse of grass, ball games are banned!

Dist:0.2km north<br/>A group of buildings in the corner between Amberden Avenue and Kingsgate Avenue. I believe they were originally built as a section house for the police. Whether that remains their function is unclear as there is no signage to indicate their current use.

Dist:0.3km north<br/>St Marylebone Burial Board purchased 47 acres in Finchley in 1854. This was a time when inner London burial grounds were full, and a number of large cemeteries were established further out. The cemetery is administered by Westminster City Council, see http://www.westminster.gov.uk/communityandliving/burials/eastfinchley.cfm . The crematorium is privately run by The London Cremation Company, which is a subsidiary of a charity, The Cremation Society of Great Britain, see http://www.srgw.demon.co.uk/CremSoc/

Dist:0.3km north<br/>The willow Garden. Water running between the rose beds lends an air of calm. The willows and the roses are just coming into leaf. Each label beside a rose remembers a loved one. In the distance can be seen St.Jude-on-the-Hill, in Hampstead Garden Suburb, with Henrietta Barnett school to its left and the Free Church to its right.

Dist:0.3km north<br/>A large property on the corner of Kingsgate Avenue and Beechwood Avenue undergoes renovation. It is a typical 1950's Mock-Tudor building and during the renovation work has had its false wooden beams removed revealing the fact that the top half of the house is not wattle and daub at all, but bricks and mortar.

Dist:0.3km north<br/>Apartment blocks in a small estate on the south side of the North Circular road (A406). The road in the foreground is Beaufort Drive, which leads down to Falloden Way (A1). The parked cars on the right of the picture are on Beaufort Park itself, whilst the bus stop and vehicles in the distance are on the North Circular.

Dist:0.3km north<br/>The Amberden Avenue end of this housing estate. The left hand no entry sign is glowing because of the angle at which the sun is striking its reflective coating.

Dist:0.3km north<br/>A gate in the fence presumably to allow council workmen in to trim the vegetation along Mutton Brook, which is hidden in the dip beyond. A footpath runs alongside the graffiti painted wall, linking Gloucester Drive with Brooklands Rise. The houses are on Connaught Drive.

Dist:0.4km north<br/>View of the North Circular (A406) from the site of the Manor Cottage roundabout. The height above the present dual carriageway gives an impression of how much steeper the climb from Henlys Corner was in the days before the road was widened. The white building on the horizon is the new Wembley Stadium.

Dist:0.4km north<br/>Looking along Addison Way from the end of Oakwood Road. On the right, at around 7.00am, a tailback is already building up from the traffic lights at Market Place on Falloden Way, a single carriageway section of the A1. It will soon back up to the junction with the North Circular Road.
