Dist:0.2km<br/>Wandle Park was once the site of Wandlebank House and grounds. The land was purchased by Wimbledon Corporation for a public park and vested in the National Trust, and the park opened in 1907. In 1910 the Mill Pond Garden was added, purchased by public subscription. In 2003 the park was redesigned to create more interest, the main feature being the reopening of the old sinuous course of the River Wandle through the park and the creation of a reed bed. The more recent straightened course of the Wandle alongside Wandle Bank still takes much of the flow but as seen here the flow in the old course is also substantial.

I presume that after treatment was abandoned on this site in 1971 [source: http://www.merton.gov.uk/living/designandconservation/conservation_areas/conservation_areas_listed_from_n-we/part_1_history_and_background.pdf], the sewage was pumped to another works (or maybe into the south London trunk sewer for treamtent at Crossness?)

Dist:0.2km<br/>A building in the disused Thames Water sewage treatment works in Merton. The high standard of brickwork detailing is typical of 19th / early 20th century municipal engineering. This site was up for sale with development potential as of 2011, and none of the buildings is listed, so it will probably be demolished before long.
