Dist:0.6km north<br/>Richmond's Half Tide Lock opened in 1894. For two hours after the passage of the tide the sluice gates underneath are lowered to block the river. This maintains the water level at a height which enables navigation up to Teddington Lock three miles upstream. This provided navigable water all hours of the day and meant a yacht club, based on the reach, could be sustained

Dist:0.7km northeast<br/>Richmond Lock is a halftide lock and barrage that also incorporates a public footbridge. The barrage is formed of three vertical sluice gates suspended from the footbridge superstructure. Apart from periods about two hours either side of high tide, the sluice gates are closed and boats have to use the conventional lock on the right side of the photo. Around high tide the sluice gates are raised into the footbridge superstructure and boats can pass through unimpeded. The lock is the most downstream on the River Thames and is the only one to be operated by the Port of London Authority.

Dist:0.7km east<br/>The original bridge carrying the railway line from Waterloo to Windsor and Reading over the River Thames was designed and built by the engineer Joseph Locke in 1848. However the failure of a similar cast-iron bridge caused considerable concerns over Locke's design, and the bridge was replaced in 1908. The new bridge used the original abutments and piers but with new decking and superstructure. The bridge was refurbished in 1984, and is between Richmond and St Margarets stations.

Dist:0.7km northeast<br/>The twin footways together with the lock are Grade II Listed structures. They were built in 1894. There are five openings: three in the centre for the counterbalanced sluice gates, one at the Surrey end for the pound lock, and one at the Middlesex end for boat rollers. The footways connect the Old Deer Park (Surrey bank) with Ranelagh Drive (Middlesex bank).
