Dist:0.6km<br/>The line from Llanelli to Swansea is very much still in use but Cockett station has almost disappeared. This is the view looking east from the road bridge on station road towards Swansea central. The kerbstones on the platform edge can still be seen running from the bottom left of shot nearly all the way up to Cockett tunnel. Most of the platform and its access are now grassed over but the path down to the platform can still be made out coming in on the left side. Cockett tunnel, which is also pictured, collapsed in 1899 but survived the Luftwaffe's heavy bombing in world war two. The collapse was thought to be due to mine work below it.

Dist:1.2km south<br/>The preponderance of evergreens gives this park a sombre atmosphere. Dylan Thomas wrote a poem about "The Hunchback in the Park" he remembered taking refuge here.

Dist:1.2km south<br/>One of many parks in Swansea suburbs. There is a raised bank on the north boundary with paths under trees and lower flat areas with playgrounds and fields.

Dist:1.2km south<br/>The park is very a traditional one (it dates from 1874) and on a dull autumn afternoon not very cheerful in appearance. It lies only a stone's throw from Dylan Thomas's childhood home and in later life he described it thus "that small, iron-railed universe of rockery, gravel-path, playbank, bowling-green, bandstand reservoir, chrysanthemum garden, …..in the grass one must keep off, I endured, with pleasure, the first agonies of unrequited love, the first slow boiling in the belly of a bad poem, the strutting and raven-locked self-dramatization of what, at that time seemed incurable adolescence."

Dist:1.3km southeast<br/>The port of Swansea is backed by a huge mound of sandstone over which the districts of Townhill, Mount Pleasant and Uplands now sprawl. This rock face reveals the blue Pennant stone that provided building material for housing during the second half of the C19 when this was a working stone quarry.

Dist:1.4km southeast<br/>The quarry bowl has been left for a while and nature has reclaimed it. The high north wall on the right is obscured by trees and in the middle of the circular path is a small pond that is said to be home to newts.
