Dist:0.4km<br/>These days this dip in which the springs rise seems to have become a bit overgrown and less well looked after than it has been in the past. The springs are the source of the River Churn, the highest tributary of the Thames. They are claimed by some to be the real source of the Thames.

Dist:0.4km<br/>From these small caverns, set into the stone wall, emerge the seven springs of water that initiate the River Churn. Let into the same wall is a plaque stating 'HIC TUUS O'TAMESINE PATER SEPTEMGEMINUS FONS' or 'here O Father Thames is your sevenfold source. This alludes to the claim which argues: because the River Churn (an upper Thames tributary)adds 4 extra miles to the length of the mighty river, when compared with Thames Head, this spot should be considered the true source. In addition these springs, at 700 feet AMSL, do not dry up; unlike Thames Head.
