Dist:0.2km<br/>The best known land mark in Draycott is Victoria Mill. The four-storey building with its green-capped ornamental clock tower dominates the skyline. The factory was known locally as 'The Ark' because its measurements were said to be the same as the ark built by Noah. Building of this lace-making factory started in 1888, with several extensions thereafter. By the time it was completed in 1907, it was the largest manufacturing mill in Europe. It was built by E T Hooley, a wealthy local industrialist and finished by Ernest Jardine. Dist:0.2km<br/>This old mill building, which dominates the eastern end of the small Derbyshire town of Draycott, is now converted into flats. A previous photo on Geograph [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/64869] shows the clock stuck at 10 to 3, but the clock has obviously been repaired as part of the conversion, as it is now working and showing the correct time.
