A beautiful carpet of bluebells amidst the deciduous trees in this part of Wendover Woods. The woods here are mixed, but conifers prevail in most areas - of course the bluebells only thrive in deciduous areas.

Dist:0.2km<br/>I guess that this little reservoir is rather like an iceberg, having most of its volume hidden beneath the surface. Capacity 250,000 gallons, built in early 1960's.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Looking along the Forestry Commission drive that leads out of Wendover Woods at the Hengrove Wood exit. The trees now resplendent in their Spring foliage. The nearest tree looks to be a Black Poplar - quite rare in Britain as a whole, but comparatively common in this area. (See http://www.bucksmkerc.org.uk/species/black_poplar.htm )

Dist:0.4km<br/>This is an entrance to Wendover Woods Forestry Commission land. The Woods include several smaller named woods, this one being Hengrove Wood.

Dist:0.4km<br/>In addition to the main forest tracks there are a number of marked footpaths, and this one drops steeply down the hillside to emerge by a wooden seat. [[1213283]].

Dist:0.4km<br/>The tree equivalent of the Pirates “Black Spot” in the book "Treasure Island." This clearly unhealthy tree has been marked for removal.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Older trees are on the hill slopes to the right and ahead, with younger plantations to the left. The tiny white marker in the distance is a welcome seat where one can rest. This section of the track is on the “Firecrest Trail”

Dist:0.4km<br/>The road that loops round the bottom of the valley reaches the steeper ground with the comparatively level bottom to the right and steep wooded slopes to the left of the picture. The wooden seat, where you can take a breather before climbing the hill, is back from the track at the corner.

Dist:0.5km<br/>There are not many seats on the paths in this part of Wendover Woods – undoubtedly on the assumption that if you have got this far you are fit and healthy! If you are already feeling a bit exhausted sit here and take a breather. Whichever way you decide to go, the only way back to the car park is up.

Dist:0.5km<br/>From this point, for several hundred yards, there are mature trees on the right hand (east) side and young trees on the left (west). This section of the track is on the “Firecrest Trail”

Dist:0.5km<br/>The main forest road which runs along the bottom of the valley bears left and starts to climb slowly up the hill. Ahead a woodland footpath is the start of a straight (but in places steep) route directly up the slope to the main car park in Wendover Woods.
