Dist:0.5km<br/>A view across Pegwell Bay at low tide late on a fine February afternoon. This photograph has been taken looking towards the disused Richborough power station. The chalky nature of the beach can be seen which gives way to sand at the low water mark.

Dist:0.5km<br/>The whale was declared dead by the time the tide had receded. I had submitted one photo on the day I took it [[2292237]] but had forgotten to submit the rest until I got POTY2011 week 9 for the first one. So here are some more.

Dist:0.5km<br/>The photo shows the toothed lower jaw of this sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) at Pegwell Bay.

Dist:0.5km<br/>We approached across the mudflats and got reasonably close before being asked to move on by a young police officer. Apparently the whale could be carrying diseases or may explode!! Obviously he and all these other people had been immunised against any such infection or explosion!

Dist:0.6km<br/>The River Stour starts near Lenham, winds its way to Ashford and then Canterbury, it then winds its way to Sandwich, then finally it winds its way through the mudflats of Pegwell Bay (on the left) and Sandwich Flats (on the right). Before it ends at the English Channel. In the background a cargo boat leaves Ramsgate.
