The name of the field according to the 1844 tithe map. The hedgerow at the far end of the field marks both the course of a bridleway and the parish boundary between St John (Without) and East Chiltington.

The name of the field according to the 1844 tithe map and most likely named after the parish it is in - St John (Without) - due to its proximity to a couple of old parish borders, the detached part of Chailey based around the manor of Warningore and that of the East Chiltington portion of Westmeston. Since 1934 the latter two have been combined in the parish of East Chiltington. Beechwood House lies in the distance.

The name of this section of the field according to the 1842 tithe map. The modern field is bounded by the footpath in the north, the bridleway in the east, the lower ground in the west and the northern edge of Warningore Wood, in view, to the south. The distinctive crown of Blackcap can be seen between the hedgerow and the wood.

Dist:0.1km<br/>Starting at the eastern end of the hamlet of Chiltington and heading south to a junction of bridleways within the wood. The hedgerow on the right is also a parish boundary between St John (Without) on this side and East Chiltington on the other.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Unnamed and not marked on the tithe map for the parish of East Chiltington meaning it was either detached from another parish or the tithes themselves had long been abolished from this piece of land. The hedgerow on the left marks the parish boundary with St John (Without) whilst beyond is Mount Harry. The distinctive crown of Blackcap is visible through the hedgerow in the centre of the picture.

Dist:0.2km<br/>The name of this section of the field according to the 1842 tithe map. Originally it ran in a north-south strip with Oak Field to the west and Sand Field to the east but has now been joined together to form one big modern field. The contours of the land can be easily followed by the recent ploughing and planting.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Allowing a peak into the field to the west of the bridleway that links Chiltington to Warningore Wood. It is noticeable that the level of the field is higher than the bridleway which has been formed by two different processes over the centuries. The first is the use of the bridleway as a drove road tramped up and down by countless farmers and their herds of livestock which gradually flattens the highway down. In the meantime the ploughing of the field raises the level of the field by throwing up the earth to the side, though it is not as pronounced as some where the head of the field was used as a turning point which would through up even more earth, which was added to by the dumping of any boulders or stones uncovered during the ploughing. Much of this earth was fashioned into embankments and planted with hedgerows to prevent animals either getting in or out of the field.
