Dist:0.4km<br/>This is the rural view of the line looking west from the A113 High Road bridge towards the M11 Motorway crossing and [[2389754]]. The track was built in 1903 by the Great Eastern Railway when they opened their Woodford and Ilford Branch through here. On the grouping of the railway companies in 1923 operational responsibilites passed to the London & North Eastern Railway, and in due course in 1948 to the Central Line of the London Underground.

Dist:0.5km<br/>Chigwell Underground station with its double Dutch gables was opened in 1903 by the Great Eastern Railway when they opened their Woodford and Ilford Branch through here. With its large plain windows the style is very much Edwardian and modern day signage and CCTV cameras apart the station probably looks very much like it did when it was opened. Dist:0.5km<br/>Looking west along Roding Lane, Chigwell, a peaceful looking scene but in reality a constant roar from the M11 shatters the peace. The motorway and river Roding both run north-south just beyond the bend in the road and Buckhurst Hill can be seen across the valley.

Dist:0.5km<br/>St. Mary's is at the heart of old Chigwell village, opposite the Old King's Head and adjacent to Chigwell School. The station and shopping parade are about half a mile to the south.

Dist:0.6km<br/>Chigwell Park is a post-war housing estate probably developed because of its proximity to [[2389944]]. This island of trees in the middle of the road is near the entrance to the estate on Chigwell Park Drive.
