Weight Loss Challenge

 (6 miles away)

We have partnered with NHS Change4life to bring you a fantastic new concept that is running throughout the UK and is proving extremely popular and achieving great results.. The Weight Loss Challenge is a 12 week community based educational program where participants (usually 40) meet together once a week for an hour. It is a non-profit making competition where participants pay £35 for the 12 week course. At the end the biggest loser 2nd and 3rd places all receive great cash prizes. This is worked out as a percentage of the total participants fees. The challenge is open to everyone even if currently using a particular weight loss method. Participants will learn the latest nutritional information, how to improve eating habits and find out exactly how many calories a body burns daily. The new information teaches how to lose weight and keep it off!
Our goal is for participants to enjoy a healthy energetic lifestyle that they can practice all their lives. Due to all the helpful information taught, participation at the weekly meetings is a KEY factor in ensuring success.
We want to help participants to lose those unwanted pounds and inches as well as educate them. As part of our commitment each participant will have a Personal Weight Loss Coach assigned to them. Coaches will be available outside of the meetings to answer any questions, monitor and guide the participant, helping them achieve their weight loss goal.
We would like the Weight Loss Challenge to be a place where participants feel confortable in coming together with others like themselves, meet new friends, be able to compete in a friendly way with one another and keep track of their progress!
But most of all it will be FUN!

Participants will be encouraged to be as active as they can and join in with the weekly discussions.

The topics covered over the 12 weeks are:

1. The importance of protein
2. How much water do i need, body composition and snacking.
3. Maximising your metabolism
4. Carbohydrates, shopping and cooking
5. Nutritional labels, fats and portion control
6. Digestive health
7 Dinning out
8. Importance of fibre
9. Sugar
10.Exercise
11.Keeping your heart healthy
12.Maintenance and long term wellness

As well as the above there are weekly incentives too! At the last meeting measurements will be taken along with the final weigh in. The winners will then be announced and presented with their prizes.

Hexley Rangers FC

 (15 miles away)

Hexley Rangers Football Club is a (Hextable/Swanley) community based junior football club and was formed by Mr John Domigan (a qualified level 1 coach who has coached and managed children’s football for many years) and Mrs Carol Thomas (a qualified Child Protection Officer and School Governor) who has also been working in children’s football for many years.

We started our club in May 2005 with two 11-a-side teams, aged under 11 and under 12.

We are affiliated to the Kent FA and we play in the Bexley and District Junior Football League.

Sponsorship

Since our inception in May 2005, we have been very pro-active and worked hard bringing sponsorship to the club, knowing from experience that the costs involved in a sports project of this size can only survive if we introduce sponsors for kits, equipment and facilities.

You will notice that our letterhead proudly bears the FA Charter Standard. We received this prestigious award in August 2005 in recognition of our best practice in setting standards in coaching, administration and child protection. The Charter Mark is a ‘quality assurance’ stamp for parents looking for a well-run and safe environment in which their children can enjoy playing football.

We are most fortunate to be playing our football matches at Downsview School, Beech Avenue, Swanley and very pleased to call this our home ground.

Our matches are played each Sunday during the season with training nights during the week or on Saturdays. During winter months we train at the all weather floodlit facility at Swanley Technology College.

A little about our club………………..

We offer a safe and responsible venue for young people to learn, train, and play football.

We are committed to always taking a professional approach in all aspects of the football club, especially with our Managers and Coaches, who are all qualified to a minimum level 1 and all coaches hold first aid badges and child protection certificates.

To ensure health and safety for our players, we make sure that we have good quality safety goals and equipment.

Our awareness and experience of bad practice in children’s football clubs has enabled us to develop this project with the children’s interests firmly at the core of the club.

NO child will ever be discriminated against and being aware of vulnerable groups in society, we will welcome all children equally, improving the self-esteem of the children.

We will offer many other activities for our members; this includes an annual football tour, trips to see premier league football matches and annual presentation evenings.

Courses are available to adults and parents within our club such as coaching courses, refereeing courses, first aid etc; as we encourage them to take an active role within the club.

Our Vision for the Future

We have a vision that the club will grow each year with each age group moving to the next year and younger age groups joining the club. We hope to be able to provide the club facilities for them well into their teenage years.

We hope to see a change in attitude that comes from educating young people to show respect for officials and demonstrate good sportsmanship. We have a Code of Conduct for Players, Managers and Spectators, which we will expect to see being adhered to.

Each child joining Hexley Rangers is given a Welcome Pack, outlining our good practice – for both players and parents to read and digest.

As we start the 2007/2008 season we have teams at U9’s U10’s U11’s U13’s U14’s and our very first girl’s team at U11’s.

As children from different backgrounds join our club, we hope that friendships will be formed, where their joint love of football will bond these friendships into their teens and beyond.

Bigger & Better

There are other informal football activities in this area, but these do not have the professional ethos that we seek. Local schools no longer have the resources, so after-school football clubs for local children have closed.

There are inadequate facilities in this area for young people and consequently teenage groups are bored and disruptive, which has been identified by the local authorities.

We hope to reverse this trend as the young people of our football club approach their teens.

Community Focused

As a club in the heart of the community – aside from our regular managers and parents meetings – we hold monthly meetings where team matters are discussed. Any issues or concerns that are identified are acknowledged and actioned.

We have our own website www.hexleyrangersfc.co.uk. It is very interactive and members can enjoy accessing the site to see stats, results. fixtures etc. We also set up links to sponsors for those offering us their support.

We feel that we have a lot to offer local children and we know that we can deliver a football club that young people will be proud to be a member of.

Thank you for your interest in Hexley Rangers FC and for taking the time to read this.

Please contact email secretary@hexleyrangersfc.co.uk - thank you. Or call the Club Secretary on 01322 613084

Swanley's BIG Sing

 (15 miles away)

“Swanley’s BIG Sing! – together we can show Swanley that WE CAN Sing!”

The residents of Swanley are being put to the test to see if they really can sing! The challenge has been set by Jon Rattenbury who is also a Swanley resident and professional singer. “Having recently moved to Swanley I wanted to see what my community really can do! We all sit at home watching shows like Britain’s Got Talent and X-Factor, but what is our talent? I’m challenging Swanley to prove that together we CAN sing!” The aim is to create a community choir for all ages that will perform at the Christmas event in Swanley on Friday 2nd December. Jon will only have 5 WEEKS to put a choir together from scratch so he is appealing to the people of Swanley to sign up and help him to meet this challenge!

The ‘Swanley’s BIG Sing’ class will be starting on Thursday 27th October at: Silver Birch, The Woodlands, Hilda May Avenue, Swanley, Kent, BR8 7BT, at 7pm til 9pm.

The workshop is open to everyone – you don’t need to have a fantastic singing voice – just bring your enthusiasm! There are no auditions – the workshops are very relaxed but most of all fun! The songs taught will be contemporary pop, soul, and gospel songs including ‘Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher’, ‘Lean On Me’, ‘Oh Happy Day’, and ‘Something Inside So Strong’. Workshops are only £5 per week.
