This road is south of the castle and the view is in the middle of the upper half of the grid square near the edge of the square. It was taken from the south, looking north to where the road takes a left turn.

Maps from several years ago show several railway lines in this area on the east side of the South Wales to Gloucester and Birmingham double track, viewed from Chepstow station platform 1. All that remains now is the track bed, a dilapidated hut in the distance, and fencing enclosing railway sleepers.

Information about the next train can be heard by pressing a button on the metal Information Point box, attached to the staircase of the footbridge. Press button 1 for Platform 1, button 2 for Platform 2. Logical ! A worrying potential problem is revealed here - a hole in the wood above the box. Could this be an indicator of widespread dry rot or wet rot in the wooden structure of the footbridge? ...

Dist:0.1km<br/>The original station dates from 1850. The present-day station is a mixture of old and new. On the camera side of the station, there is a canopy and access is from Station Road. Services for Gloucester and Birmingham stop here. Services for Newport and Cardiff depart from the opposite platform, which can be reached only by the footbridge, making access difficult for people with pushchairs or buggies, and impossible for wheelchair users. There is only a small shelter http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1232235 on the opposite platform.
