Dist:0.5km<br/>The original Wilden Ferry was replaced by a three span arch bridge in 1760. This was named after the scheme's patron, William Cavendish, the 4th Duke of Devonshire. The bridge was destroyed by ice floes and meltwater following the severe winter of 1947. A Bailey Bridge was in place for ten years until a permanent replacement was completed in 1957. The bridge was on a new alignment by-passing the Old Crown Inn on the south bank. The current bridge has restricted capacity controlled by single lane alternate way working with traffic lights.

Dist:0.5km<br/>This road (now the B5010) once formed part of the A6 - presumably up to the opening of the new A50 section and the accompanying A6 spur. This sign indicating its old designation appears to have been overlooked, but is now fading and becoming obscured by an ash sapling.
