A view looking east from the parapet of the bridge on stonewage Lane, along the course of the old trackbed of Great Western Railway (GWR) Limpley Stoke to Camerton branch line. The branch closed in 1951 as a result of the closure of Camerton Colliery in 1950, but was used in 1952 in the making of the film “The Titfield Thunderbolt”.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Down a steep an slippery hill to the Cam Brook and Stoneage Farm then up an equally steep but not so slippery hill to Tunley sitting on the top.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Near the junction with Stoneage Lane (to the left), The steep hill ahead leads to Withyditch. Very icy today. Tip: in icy conditions like this it is usually a good idea to put your nearside wheels as close to the edge of the road as reasonably possible where there is often some extra grip.

Dist:0.4km<br/>A small group out for a Sunday morning stroll - er - slide. Keeping well into the side of the road to avoid the ice in the middle. Alpenstocks would have been useful.

Dist:0.4km<br/>The lane up to Peasedown is on the left, straight on down the hill to Wicklane and Camerton. The signpost stands on what might be called the village green, but Carlingcott was a mining village and had little time for such fripperies. That road was very icy but there were a few patches that could be walked on.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Carlingcott is in the parish of Peasdown St.John, which is about half a mile to the south. In the North Somerset Coalfield, the village had its own mine in the valley to the north east between Stoneage Farm and Splott Farm.
