It's actually the North East Surrey Crematorium and Morden Cemetery.

This is the main entrance to Battersea New Cemetery, off Lower Morden Lane, which was opened in 1891, presumably as space was used up in cemeteries nearer the centre of London. It is still managed by Wandsworth Borough Council. In the distance at the end of the drive is North East Surrey Crematorium http://www.nes-crematorium.org.uk/index.php photographed by Noel here [[30661]].

Pyl Brook is a tributary of Beverley Brook that flows into the River Thames near Barnes.

Pyl Brook flows beyond the embankment in the distance but in front of the distant houses, which are on Derwent Road. The embankment has a couple of low sections and during a flood event the water spills over these, out of the brook, and begins to fill up the flood storage area in the foreground. At the downstream end of the pond are [[690798]] which allow the stored flood water to gradually rejoin the brook as the flood subsides.

This is also the Derwent Floodwash Local Nature Reserve and the boardwalk and platform (fenced area just to the left of the tree), next to the small marshy area and pond on the left, were built to enable local school pupils to use the site as an outdoor classroom for environmental education.

A penstock is a sluice or gate that controls the flow of water. During a flood event these penstock gates, seen from within [[690771]], would allow stored flood water to gradually rejoin Pyl Brook, which is flowing on the other side of the embankment.

Dist:1.0km west<br/>Motspur Park is on the line between Wimbledon and Epsom. This is the down platform. There are six trains an hour to Waterloo during ordinary weekday hours, at a scheduled 25 minutes for the journey.

Dist:1.0km west<br/>With typically six trains an hour in each direction on weekdays this is a very busy level crossing with frequent closures to road traffic. [[675396]] is in the distance with an up South West Trains train in the station and a down service bound for Dorking departing and about to cross over the level crossing.

Dist:1.0km west<br/>The sports ground become disused and was sold in 2005 to a developer who intended to build a leisure and fitness centre on the site. However local opposition to the proposed scheme was strong, and the latest plans (in October 2007) are suggesting that the sports ground could be turned into a cemetery. This is because planning regulations require the land to remain as a green space and a cemetery is one of the very few options now open to the owners.

Dist:1.0km west<br/>Beverley Brook flows out into the River Thames to the east of Barnes. This was taken looking downstream from the Motspur Park / West Barnes Lane road bridge. The boundary between the London Boroughs of Merton, to the right, and Kingston upon Thames, to the left, runs down the centre of the brook at this location.
