Dist:0.3km<br/>Bargate Bridge carries Sibsey Road over the Maud Foster Drain. Built in 1805 by John Rennie, it was widened on the south side during 1972-3 for the Department of the Environment. The widened bridge was opened by the Mayor of Boston, Councillor Norman H.Hughes on 26th April 1973

The first Maud Foster was cut in 1568, and it now forms part of a complex network of drains ensuring that low-lying Boston never (or rarely) floods. Maud Foster may have owned the land through which the drain was cut, but her identity is obscure.

Dist:0.4km<br/>The Maud Foster Windmill stands next to the Maud Foster Drain in Boston. It is the tallest working windmill in the country, and is unusual in that it has five sails. It was built in 1819 to grind corn, and flour is still produced by the mill today.
