Welcome to Burley. This is a guide to the Burley area.

(Rear view)Springfield Hall off Springfield Road. A grade II listed mill owners house built in the early to mid 19th century in stone with a welsh blue slate roof. It was built for Mr John Webster who owned Rods Mill and employed a large number of workers. In 1862 Joseph Smith bought it and erected Springfield Mill at the rear of the house. In 1864 Dixon Nichols & Co bought the estate and manufactured union cloth. Now a retirement home.

What was this building? It almost looks like a former chapel, or small industrial building. Now apparently two houses.

A street of mostly back-to-back houses. On the right a block of four has been knocked into one, plus what could be an extension over the passage to the rear. This must be a large house, unless it is apartments.
