Budleigh Salterton Homepage


The Beach at Budleigh Salterton, I found this a very pleasant and attractive town to stop for my lunch as I walked this section of the coastal path. Millais painted his famous picture "The Boyhood of Raleigh. 1870" on a visit to the town. The wall that features in the painting can still be seen.

Dist:0.3km<br/>The coastal path descends to Budleigh Salterton with this view. The beach is all pebble, part of the Budleigh pebble beds layer of rock that sits on top of the red sandstone. These created the spit across the mouth of the River Otter in Tudor times.
