Glass blowing is demonstrated using a modern furnace inside the museum. Even this is sufficient to warm the inside of the cone. A large central furnace was fired up continuously at 1250C and had a dozen openings to allow extraction and reheating of the glass as it was worked on open benches. The Grade 2* listed glass cone dates from around 1790 and is one of four surviving in Britain. It was last used in 1936.

The origin of the fairly common pub name of the Bird in Hand, is believed to be derived from the bird of prey in falconry sitting on the left gauntlet (glove). The sign in the photo is above the door on John Street. Another and larger sign is affixed to the side wall in Bridge Street. [[2672411]].

One of a vanishing breed, a back street pub. The Bird in Hand is on the corner of John Street, and Bridge Street. Being located near where glassworks factories used to operate, their workers would, in the past, have provided many of the pub's customers. [[2672445]].

The timber clad building, Dadford's Shed, houses a covered wharf. It is named after the canal's builder, Thomas Dadford.

Thomas Dadford was the engineer of the canal, until he resigned in 1781. This bridge is named after him, and carries Mill Street across the canal.

The bridge is Dadford's Bridge, the weatherboarded building Dadford's Boatyard, both named after the builder of the canal.

In these tunnels under the glassworks cone a team of men tended the coal powered furnace that was kept continuously at 1250C twenty four hours a day for years on end. The furnace was finally shut down in 1936. The cone is the only survivor from the glassmaking industry in Stourbridge and Brierley Hill.

The transhipment shed was built between 1884 and 1903 is named after Thomas Daford Junior who supervised the building of the canal between 1776 and 1779.
