From the east NCN1 arrives at Brunstane using the course of the old railway, it is then diverted through the local housing estate. It is possible to continue along the pictured path, a steep slope and a narrow path through undergrowth eventually leads out onto Brunstane Road South at approximately NT314725.

The footbridge, incidentally, forms part of National Cycle Route One, yet has no ramp for pushing a bicycle up or down. A real inconvenience for anyone with a heavily laden bicycle.

Dist:0.2km<br/>This picture was taken from a footbridge at Brunstane railway station, the large building beyond the houses is Jewel and Esk Valley College which provides vocational training for various employers in this part of Midlothian. The college was created in 1984 when Leith Nautical College merged with Eskbank College.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Woolworths was one of the first of many high street casualties in the financial disasters that followed 2007. The shed at Brunstane has not found a new use and the car park, sealed off from the road network is going wild. This is also on route 1 of the National Cycle Network.
