St Michael's is at the top of St Michael's hill. It is the maternity department which always seems rather cruel having it at the top of such a steep hill.

Dist:0.1km north<br/>Supplemental to [[166510]] which shows the whole building at 4 Horfield Road. The blue plaque states that the actor Michael Redgrave was born here in 1908.

Dist:0.1km north<br/>This C19 pub at the foot of St Michael's Hill is not named after a native of Caledonia but after the man whose job it was to 'scotch' the wheels of horsedrawn carts to stop them slipping down the hill. The wooden wedges or scotches would be carried in a pack for the purpose and must have been needed frequently here in this steep street.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>St Michael on the Mount Without is situated on St Michael's Hill in Bristol. The tower dates from the 15th century, the church was rebuilt in the late 18th century. Sadly the church is now boarded up.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Looking east through the railings [[133476]] at Colston's Almshouse which was built in 1691. It was founded by Edward Colston, and the 12 men and women residents had to be born in Bristol and attend the chapel regularly.
